SPRING 2024: ACCEPTING REFERRALS (see below)

New Referrals Update

Dr. Denise Kyte has expanded her hours and is currently accepting ADULT (19+) referrals. Please see the About Us page for information on Dr. Denise Kyte.

We are currently accepting referrals for all ages. While some providers have significant wait times (4-6 months+) these times vary and in some cases the availability of Telehealth appointments can help shorten wait times (please inquire).

We are not an emergency clinic and can not accommodate referrals on short notice, regardless of reason or referral source.

Previously we have suggested other providers to contact but due to overwhelming demand for all services/practices we no longer provide suggestions (as other practices are also full to our knowledge). Please continue to check this site for updates or visit apns.ca for a list of psychologists in Nova Scotia.

The IWK Community Mental Health program and Emergency services can be obtained through contacting their Central Referral line at (902) 464-4110. Other private practices can be found by visiting apns.ca and searching for a child psychologist or by your referral concern (e.g., anxiety, depression, behaviour issues, etc).

Online free help for anxiety can be found by visiting
AnxietyCanada and a number of books or online resources can also be helpful including the free MindShift CBT App (found on AnxietyCanada) or books focused on the evidence-based approaches to treating child anxiety.

If you have questions or concerns regarding the above decision please email Dr. Chorney directly by email (drchorney @ gmail.com) although please keep in mind exceptions will not be made regarding the above policy/decision.

Fee Increase - January 1st, 2024

As of January 1st, 2024 our hourly fees for psychological services will be:

$220 for recurrent appointments (50min)
$330 for Initial Appointment (90min)

These changes apply to all existing and new clients of the practice.
We Are Hiring:

Our practice is constantly trying to meet the demand of accepting new referrals while providing exceptional ongoing care for our existing clients. We work hard to keep waitlists down to two weeks or less for new referrals when possible while also ensuring there are reasonable spaces available for existing clients of the practice.

We are currently looking for a PhD-level Clinical Psychologist, Counselling Psychologist, or a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD). Psychologists registered/licensed at the Masters degree level will be considered in some cases.
There is currently ONE position open - either full-time position or part time, and the position can be primarily in-person or hybrid (some Telehealth) - there is flexibility in the position and can be shaped to what works for you. Starting time/date is also negotiable and applicants could start immediately OR later (e.g. later into 2024 or even 2025).

Our practice focuses on children and adolescents, however, psychologists focusing on adults are also encouraged to apply as we currently do not have a psychologist in this area and have many referrals for young adults (university-aged). The ability to work remotely (via telehealth) is an option during COVID19 (and potentially after).

Our group of psychologists is composed of primarily child/adolescent focused CBT practitioners who provide evidence-based care to families and young adults. Our practice is collaborative with possibilities for supervision and consultation when needed while also allowing for independence and flexibility in practice. Scheduling and holiday/vacation time is flexible throughout the year and compensation is in line with other local practices. We work hard to promote work life balance with all our staff.

If you or someone you know may be interested or would like to know more, please email a CV directly to Dr. Chorney and if you'd like to learn more about our practice please visit the
About Us page.

Telepsychology:

Whether due to health concerns or convenience, many of our current clients have opted to use Telepsychology for their appointments. We will continue to use Telepsychology services for the foreseeable future and appointments can be made in-person (with limited availability) OR via telepsychology when booking. Please note that in-person can be switched to telepsychology if you are feeling unwell or can't make your in-person appointment for a variety of reasons and are looking to avoid a cancellation fee.

Please visit our
Telepsychology page for information on this service.

Professional Workshops:
If you are interested in scheduling Dr. Chorney for a Professional Development lecture or workshop, please email him directly or
